Beautiful You – Indulge In The Dark Side
by Amy Newson
Vamp up your autumn wardrobe with the Gothic Glam trend, from satin gowns to crushed velvet creepers, dazzle in these stunning pieces – they’re not just for Halloween!
The Gothic Glam trend is here to ease us into the first proper autumn month; and coincidentally the spookiest month too, which ends with our favourite fancy dress occasion – Halloween. In this trend, sassy meets gloomy (but not in an Addams family kind of way), so follow it to add an air of elevated darkness to your look and say hello to bewitchingly good style. Find out how to get that glam Goth look and wear it with confidence.
The ultimate vampy look for autumn is pretty easy to accomplish. Just choose materials like leather, lace, crushed velvet and satin – all in black of course. The options of what to wear are wide and varied, and so much more elegant than you’d think! This isn’t a Morticia Addams doppelganger affair but a take on sophisticated dressing – with a twist.
So go ahead and indulge in the dark(er) side with gothic looks galore: romantic lace, sheer bodices, high necklines, dripping chokers and witch-like capes all set the scene. Dabble in the cool (and sexy) underworld with fantastic pieces, from frill-embellished leather jackets to fishnet tights, negligee-like skirts and empire-waist Victorian gowns that steal the show. Long dramatic gowns boasting frills and lace detail and pussy-bow silk crepe de chine blouses are perfect for the October chill.
Creepers, Goth platform knee-high boots and chunky rocker boots are a glam Goth’s footwear of choice – go for leather or crushed velvet to really get in to character.
Add a pop of colour to your dark ensemble – fire engine red and deep purple are the best colours to enhance your look and add the perfect bit of contrast to this style – because being a Goth doesn’t have to be dreary, you see.
And for the finishing touch – invest in some vampy make-up: smoky eyes, winged eyeliner, dark lips and rouge noir nails will have you looking sophisticated with a touch of femme fatale power. As for your hair, tousle and tease it into an organised mess to achieve the desired effect.
Of course, if you feel this trend is too bold for your taste, you can pick and choose your favourite pieces. Get sultry lips with tousled hair or just add some crushed velvet here and there – experimenting is fun and this glam trend is definitely one to indulge in this autumn.
At Halloween there’s no excuse. Get creative, from your pointy heels to your carefully curated black satin gown, and don the full Goth look to impress (and unnerve) your friends.
Dressing up has never been more fun, so introduce some of this chic and sleek attire to your wardrobe – even if it’s only a subtle velvet choker.
