Blues At The Hawth

Blues At The Hawth

Summer Season, June – September 2017

The Hawth has a marvellous reputation amongst fans of Blues music for putting together top quality blues events and this summer is no exception.

The season starts on Monday 5th June with a session with Lauren Housley. Singing a selection of her own songs co-written with her songwriting partner Thomas Dibb. She’ll be singing infectious, feelgood uptempo numbers and stirring, soul-deep ballads conjuring memories of her forerunners among strong, empowered female artists as Janis Joplin, Eva Cassidy and Lauryn Hill, but with a distinct 21st century twist.

Giles Hedley & The Aviators perform funky roots-blues steeped in early Chicago blues at The Hawth on Thursday 15th June. Earthy slide and steel guitars, blistering lead guitar, a passionate, Howlin’ Wolf-style voice, adventurous bass and drums make up the unmistakeable Aviators sound which is unlike any other British blues band.

There is a rare solo acoustic outing for Dave Kelly on Wednesday 28th June. The Blues Band singer/guitarist features regularly at The Hawth with both the band and as a duo with Paul Jones Dave has a pure British Blues pedigree and looks forward to playing solo for his fans.

Southern soul, Americana, gospel and blues – Mississippi native Lisa Mills takes the best of each these genres and utterly transforms them. By taking all those ingredients and adding the occasional dollop of jazz inflection, Mills serves up her own savoury-sweet mix. She will perform at The Hawth on Wednesday 5th July which will be an evening not to be missed.

Last here supporting Paul Jones & Dave Kelly, Adam & Elsie Franklin host an evening with an impressive mix of acoustic and country blues on Friday 28th July. Adam is a superb exponent of blues and ragtime from a Golden Age of American music with a powerful and soulful voice and is equally at home on guitar and resonator ukulele. Elsie is an upcoming Blues artist who has a strong voice and incredible guitar skills.

The Matt Woosey Duo will perform on Friday 8th September. Matt’s acclaimed shows dart between folk, roots, ambient and electronica. Tipped by tastemakers from BBC Radio to Classic Rock, and on a headline tour across Britain and beyond, there is a real sense that Matt is building towards something truly special.
