Pangdean Old Barn, Pyecombe
Beating Heart Disease Together
Rupert Toovey of Tooveys Auctioneers captivated guests with his entertaining talk to 160 guests at the Mid Sussex Branch of the British Heart Foundation’s Summer Lunch. With almost 29 years in his profession Rupert is well known for his expertise and regularly appears on the BBC’s Bargain Hunt and Flog it and shared not just his expertise but many amusing anecdotes charting his experiences over the years.
The sun stayed tucked behind the clouds but guests were still able to enjoy the gorgeous walled garden with wonderful views of the Downs before sitting down to lunch in the wonderful 17thC oak framed Old Barn at Pangdean.
Following lunch, Rupert demonstrated his skills auctioning a week’s holiday; and a print by local artist Lucy Beacham. The auction helped bring the total raised to the amazing sum of nearly £7000.00. The money raised will help to fund vital work on life-saving heart research.
The British Heart Foundation raises money to fund pioneering research into the causes and treatment of heart disease among men, women and children. They need to spend £190 every two minutes of every day on life-saving heart research because every 2 minutes someone has a heart attack. It is now known that coronary heart disease kills over 4 times more women than breast cancer.
Simon Cartwright, Chairman of the branch commented that fundraising for all charities is becoming increasingly difficult in the current economic climate. He said the committee members, most of whom had family members including young children who had been affected by heart disease worked unstintingly to raise funds. He added that 160 tickets sold out almost immediately reflecting the impact of heart disease on everyone’s lives and the strong support for the British Heart Foundation and it’s vital work.
