Building On Strong Foundations
by Hanna Lindon
With a newly opened factory and office space in Burgess Hill, it’s exciting times for established local building firm Countryside Constructions
From a spacious office on Burgess Hill’s Sheddingdean Business Park, Countryside Constructions founder Bob Lindfield is setting out his plans for the firm’s future.
“The problem we’ve had in the past is that our office and storage space has always been separate,” he tells me. “Now we have a unit that combines both. We’re going to set up a display area so that people can come and look at kitchens and bathrooms.”
Established by Bob and cofounder Ray Everest back in 2004, Countryside Constructions has a strong record of serving the Hassocks and Hurstpierpoint area. Despite the move to Burgess Hill, Bob is keen to emphasise that the firm won’t be neglecting its roots.
“We’ve always had a strong presence in Hurstpierpoint and Hassocks, and we don’t want people to think we’ve disappeared,” he says. “We will still be working in those areas – but Burgess Hill is central and easy to get to, and being here will give us the chance to branch out as well.”
Aside from its local roots, what really makes Countryside Constructions stand out is that the company offers a complete design-to-completion package. Specialising in residential house building and extensions, Bob and his fellow director Tony Everest manage everything from building regulations, planning consent and structural calculations to electrical and heating work.
“We have our own plumbing and electrical departments – everything is in-house,” explains Tony, who joined the company three years ago when his brother Ray retired. “That means we can be more efficient than if we had to coordinate independent plumbers and electricians.”
Countryside Constructions was founded to be a friendly local building company and the firm has remained true to its roots, focussing on residential work rather than commercial projects. Customer service is a priority – Karen, who works in the office, is on hand five days per week to be the first port of call for clients. Bob also puts a strong emphasis on the firm’s place within the local community.
“We have a long-standing reputation in the community and we like to give something back,” he says. “We’re committed to working with local schools and we take a work experience student from Downlands School every year. We also try to offer an apprenticeship every year – at the moment we have two full-time apprentices.”
Bob and Tony are keen to retain that community connection as the firm expands its reach. With exciting plans for a display area in development, they look forward to greeting both new and familiar faces at Countryside Constructions’ Burgess Hill premises.
