Norman Cook, widely known by his stage name Fatboy Slim, is an iconic DJ, producer, and musician who has become a legend in the world of electronic dance music. Having resided in Brighton & Hove for many years, he has become a musical icon in Sussex. 1. Sussex Native: Norman Cook has a strong connection to Sussex - having resided in Brighton for a number of years and played various gigs across the county from early in his career. 2. Bassist of The Housemartins: Before his solo success as Fatboy Slim, Cook was a member of the influential indie band, The Housemartins. Serving as the bassist for the band, Cook contributed to their distinctive sound and played a key role in their success. The Housemartins, known for hits like "Happy Hour" and "Caravan of Love," gained popularity in the 1980s and left a lasting impact on the British music scene.

 

 

3. Pioneering Big Beat: Cook is credited as one of the pioneers of the Big Beat genre, characterized by its fusion of electronic dance music, hip-hop, and rock elements. His groundbreaking tracks like "The Rockafeller Skank" and "Praise You" have become anthems of the genre and have left an indelible mark on the music industry.

5. Record-Breaking Beach Party: In 2002, Fatboy Slim made music history by hosting the biggest beach party ever recorded. Over 250,000 fans gathered on Brighton Beach to dance to his beats, creating an unforgettable experience. Locals can proudly recall this epic event that showcased the electric atmosphere and sense of community fostered by Norman Cook's music.
