Sussex Living Spotlight Events Part 1/4

Check out these upcoming spotlight events across Sussex.

Colwood House, Warninglid - Sunday 13th August, 1pm to 5pm

Opening as part of the National Garden Scheme, Colwood House offers 12½ acres of lawns, herbaceous borders, rose gardens, parterre, cut turf labyrinth and forsythia tunnel, plus many fine specimen trees dating from the late 19th century. There’s also a 35m terrace, flower rimmed croquet lawn, statues and gazebos, plus a giant chessboard and lake with an island and temple. Most of the garden is wheelchair accessible and there are cakes and drinks for sale and picnics are welcome. Colwood House has appeared as ‘Fox Corner’ in the recent BBC2 adaptation of ‘Life After Life’ by Kate Atkinson. Entry £7 for adults, children (under 16) free, and dogs on leads are welcome.

Live At Langhams - Saturday 12th August, from 1pm to 10pm

Enjoy the much-loved annual event ‘Live At Langhams’ – part of the Madhurst Festival. Expect the event's usual relaxed style; wonderful live music, a well-stocked, award-winning bar, a fabulous atmosphere and delicious fresh food, courtesy of two local producers Simply Hog Roast and Taco Look At Me Now.  

Look forward to live pop, rock, soul, jazz and sea shanties from Fate The Juggler, Duck Pond Sailors, The Rec and many more. This is a free event, but please do give generously, as there will be a collection for the Friends Of The South Downs and the South Downs National Park‘s ‘Help Nature to Renature’ and similar projects which safeguard our wonderful landscape.

Family Fun at Bodiam Castle - School holidays until Tuesday 31st Aug, 10am to 4pm
Roll up, roll up and join all the fun of the Medieval Fair! Try mini jousting, soft play archery and more (free with admission). Then follow The Castle the King Built trail revealing characters from Bodiam's past (£2). While school’s out for summer, it’s back to the classroom at Knight School with tournament duels and armour handling (1–9 Aug, free with admission). Craft workshops (£2.50/£5) and have-a-go archery (age 7+, £3.50 for 6 arrows) on selected dates will keep little princes and princesses happy.

Butterfly Gardens at Middleton Common Farm - Open daily, 10am to 5pm

The tropical flight area has been created to ensure perfect conditions for these live butterflies. The temperature and humidity is not only for the hundreds of tropical butterflies, but to also sustain the tropical plants and flowers needed to enable the butterflies to feed, breed and lay their eggs. The habitat of the butterflies has been reconstructed at the butterfly farm in such a way as to allow visitors an insight into the fascinating way of life of these amazing insects.
