Summer Skin Glow

Skin Expert Bryony Blake

Get glowing summer skin with beauty expert Bryony Blake’s top five tips, as told to Sara Whatley

Summer skin and makeup is all about embracing the natural aesthetic of the season – sun kissed, healthy, glowing skin. We want to shine from the inside out and match the easy breezy holiday vibe of summer.

Plump dewy skin is a winning look for summer and speaks of freshly jumping out the shower or the pool. Achieve this glaze by maintaining a rigorous skin care routine and using the right makeup products – liquid or cream based formulas are key, and using a liquid highlighter will boost the dewy glow too.

Supporting this natural looking skin craze is ‘underpainting’ – in other words doing your face backwards! Start with the contouring then layerfoundation on top for a subtle sculpt look.

If you are yearning for a bit of summer colour never fear as pops of eye colour are big news. Pinks and yellows are popular, but any bright colour from blue to purple to orange will create a statement look. Go one step further and embrace the metallic and shimmer shine on the eyes as well.

Team with this season’s shell-tastic jewellery trend and high gloss lips and you are all set to hit the beach, the park, the high street and wherever else this summer might take you.

Bryony Blake, beauty expert, celebrity makeup artist and TV presenter on This Morning, gives Sussex Living readers her top five tips for summer skin:

“I always think it’s best to try and keep your face out of the sun as much as you can. But this doesn’t mean you can’t have a gorgeous tan; try adding a couple of tanning drops to your evening moisturiser. This will work over night making sure you wake up with a bronzed glow,” said Bryony.

1. Skincare is essential but maybe change your moisturiser to a gel base formula as they’re lightweight and absorb easily in warmer weather.

2. Always use a high SPF sunscreen. I like to use an illuminating one as it give a gorgeous glow to the skin.

3. Swap your foundations for a more lightweight base foundation or CC [colour corrector cream] or tinted moisturiser. These are lighter and more youthful in the summer.

4. Gel bronzers. I love to use a gel bronzer as they last longer on the skin and are easy to blend. Plus if you don’t want to wear a foundation you can just use it on its own for a bronzy glow.

5. A creamy highlight will always add a gorgeous summer glow to the skin. Make sure you use it only on the high points of your face; top of the sheer bones, bridge of the nose and a pop on the Cupid’s bow.
