Saturday 18 November Christmas Lights Switch-on 17:00

Around Burgess Hill Town Centre Chase and Marshall from the children’s TV favourite Paw Patrol will be the star attraction at Burgess Hill’s Christmas Celebration and Lights Switch-on this year. The popular TV characters will be shaking paws with the public throughout the day and switching on the town’s Christmas Lights. There will be children’s fairground rides, free ice rink, Santa’s Grotto at the Martlets Shopping Centre, free Rodeo Reindeer, Santa’s Sleigh (Rotary Club), children’s activities at the Library, and also an entertainment and music programme at the Bandstand. A Christmas Craft Fair will be held at Burgess Hill Town Council, 96 Church Walk, from 11am – 4pm. We also have a fancy dress competition, with categories for under 5 and 5-10 years. The two competition winners will join Chase and Marshall on the bandstand at 5pm to switch on the Christmas Lights.

The Christmas Tree Festival, in aid of Chailey Heritage, is at Holy Trinity Church in Cuckfield. Local schools, shops, businesses, clubs and societies are invited to decorate a Christmas tree, either to a Christmas theme or to reflect their organisation. There will be live music and refreshments, and a carol service from 6pm. Admission: £5, children: fre.

East Grinstead

The very creative High Street Traders reveal their festive windows. This has become a much anticipated magical event with crowds of people eagerly waiting for the countdown to begin and the brown paper coverings to be ripped away. Come to the High Street from 4pm to see what those artistic shop keepers have come up with. This year the High Street will be closed to traffic from 4pm to 8pm and there will be entertainment and late night shopping.

This is a Sussex based charity supporting local young people in need and will launch a new charity grotto at South Downs Nursery. You will be able to visit Santa’s toy factory, see the elves hard at work making gifts and meet Santa in his factory office. Children pay £5 each and accompanying adults are free. All profits raised from grotto ticket sales will go to the charity. No pre-booking available. Downlands School Association looks forward to welcoming you to our Christmas Market. We will have lots of craft stalls, seasonal food and drink, live music and our annual Christmas Tree Forest. We raise money not only for the school, but for our Christmas Tree Forest, with trees sponsored by local Hassocks businesses. Downlands students will be running fun stalls – everything from Rudolph hoop-la to win a Christmas snow globe. There will be a super raffle with fabulous prizes too.
