Hops, Flowers And Seasonal Foliage Adorn St Thomas A Becket
Hops, flowers and seasonal foliage adorns a Lewes church as it celebrates Harvest thanksgiving. Talented flower teams from the Cliffe parish church of St Thomas a Becket created a host of colourful displays for the occasion, with fresh hops provided by nearby Harvey’s brewery.
“We welcomed many visitors to the church as the festival got underway,” said Churchwarden Trevor Butler. “The bouquet from the hops and festive displays provided a fitting atmosphere for our Harvest services.”
On Saturday over 200 gathered at the ancient church in Cliffe High Street for the annual service hosted by Harvey’s. This year they were joined by over 30 former Masters from the London Livery Companies, invited by Head Brewer Miles Jenner who was Master of the Worshipful Company of Brewer’s.
“It was a wonderful occasion”, adds Mr Butler. “The local west gallery quire [sic] Sussex Harmony, under Rachel Jordan, led us in popular hymns including All Things Bright and Beautiful, and We Plough the Fields while Brother George Linnegar preached on the wider meaning of Harvest.
The flower festival continues this weekend (14-15 Oct). Admission is free.
