Celebrating Mothering Sunday At Amberley Museum

Celebrating Mothering Sunday At Amberley Museum

On Sunday 11th March, Amberley Museum will be hosting their annual Mums Can Do event for Mothering Sunday.  As part of this event the Museum is offering free entry to Mum’s of all ages when accompanied by their children.

As part of Mums Can Do, there will be special activities for Mum’s to take part in around the Museum.   Visitors can ‘Discover’ the 36 acre site, ‘Learn’ about the Museum exhibits and ‘Have Fun’ with the hands on activities.

Mum’s can have a go at Pottery with the Museum’s onsite Potters Menear Ceramics (www.menearceramics.com).  They will be holding demonstrations on how to throw a pot, and Mum’s can then have a go themselves, at £5 per person.  There will also be play with clay activities available for children.  The Sussex Woodturners will also be demonstrating their skills, and Mum’s can have a go at turning their own garden dibber, egg cup or light cord pull at £2.50 per item.  In the Greenwood Village there will be opportunities to be creative with wood, making a flower or rake tooth.

On the narrow gauge railway, there will be an opportunity for Mum’s to have a go at driving a train.  Spaces are limited for this experience, so this needs booked at their Brockham railway station when you arrive at the Museum.  Mum’s can have a go at conducting a bus and be a clippy on their journey around the Museum.  With craft activities also available for children, there is so much to enjoy on this day.  Their Limeburners café will also be open, serving hot and cold lunches.

Amberley Museum is a remarkable heritage site in the Sussex South Downs, with 36 acres to explore and over 40 exhibit buildings to visit, focusing on industrial and transport history. Take a ride on the narrow gauge railway and historic bus. Exhibits include the telecommunications hall, electricity hall, working printshop, lime kilns, steam engines and more.

The Museum is home to traditional craftspeople such as the Woodturners and Blacksmith, with a café, gift shop, nature trails and picnic areas. The Museum is accessibility friendly and dogs are welcome on site.

This year the Museum is celebrating its 40th season, and they are hosting over 50 events in 2018 from children’s activity days to classic vehicle shows.  They will be open from the 7th March to 28th October, for more information on their events, or education programme, please see their website for full details www.amberleymuseum.co.uk.
