Lancing College have revealed their Spring concerts.

All public concerts held at Lancing College are ticketed.

Unless otherwise stated, tickets are available in advance from the Music Department (music@lancing.org.uk / 01273 465969)

Thursday 18 January

  • Celebrity Recital: Joseph Shiner (clarinet)
  • Reinoud Ford (cello) and Simon Lane (piano)
  • 7.45pm Great School
  • Tickets £12 (£10 concessions)

This evening’s programme will include solo pieces for clarinet, cello and piano, as well as Brahms’ lyrical and passionate Clarinet Trio. Clarinettist Joseph Shiner and pianist Simon Lane are no strangers to Lancing, and they will be joined by cellist Reinoud Ford, who performs an eclectic mix of music all over the world.

Lunchtime Concerts at Lancing College offer a variety of musical delights from current pupils. Each concert lasts about half an hour. Admission to Lunchtime Concerts is free: tickets can be ordered in advance (see form overleaf) or obtained from Reception at the College on the day.

During the heats of the Inter-House Music Competition, our talented musicians are challenged to form new ensembles as well as to compete in a variety of solo classes, to see who can most impress our distinguished adjudicators. This concert is the climax of the competition and a showcase event for our most talented young performers.

Handel’s 4 Coronation Anthems – including the thrilling Zadok the Priest – with chorus and orchestra, preceded by an intriguing ‘New from Old’ first half: three fine soloists each perform an early song, followed by the first performance of three brand new song-cycles, by composers Jack Redman, James Chan and Neil Cox.Intimacy meets ceremonial grandeur.

The Great School Hall at Lancing College provides the perfect setting for a feast of musical excellence. This year’s programme will include music by Mendelssohn, Tchaikovsky, Haydn, Mozart and Duke Ellington. A wonderful evening out for the discerning musician.

Wednesday 21 March

  • Celebrity Recital: Ani Batikian (violin) and Roland Roberts (piano)
  • 8.00pm Great School

To honour the Centenary of WWI, Ani Batikian and Roland Roberts will perform a themed recital entitled From Armenia to Armistice. Music by Komitas, Khachaturian, Roland Roberts and the première of a new work by Ian Morgan-Williams.

Ani Batikian has performed as a soloist with Sinfonia Toronto and Glasgow Chamber Orchestra, amongst others. From 2007 to 2012, Ani was a Violin Lecturer at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama and continues to be a dedicated teacher.

Roland Roberts has enjoyed a wide-ranging international career as a violinist, pianist, conductor and composer. He has been Director of The City of Oxford Orchestra since 1995, and has also worked extensively with the London Sinfonietta and the Philharmonia Orchestra as a violinist.

You may collect tickets on the door, on the day, but are advised to purchase tickets in advance, to avoid disappointment.
