Swimming To Success

Swimming To Success

by David Lashbrook

Are you looking to gain maximum exposure for your business? Why not take the plunge and sponsor the award winning Mid Sussex Marlins.

Formed in 2007 following the merger of the Burgess Hill and Haywards Heath Swimming Clubs, Mid Sussex Marlins (Marlins) is one of the largest swimming clubs in the UK. Its 900+ community and competitive members range in age from six to over eighty years old; and ability from those who are learning to swim to swimmers who compete nationally.

Marlins are the current Sussex League champions and Sussex Relay Gala champions. Seven Marlins swimmers recently qualified to swim in the UK’s national championships and the club regularly competes in galas across Sussex, the South East Region, the UK and even internationally. For example, at the time of going to press, 114 Marlins swimmers had simultaneously competed in three galas in Crawley, Crowborough and Hastings during the evening of Saturday 3 June. Last May, Marlins Masters swimmers won nine medals at the European Masters Swimming Championships at the London Aquatics Centre.

Marlins also have an active water polo section with the very successful woman’s team (which includes several home grown national players) competing in the national league whilst the men’s team competes in the local league. In addition, the club established a disability section twenty years ago and now swimmers compete on a national basis too.

Marlins home pool is at the Triangle in Burgess Hill. This pool, with its 8 lanes, electronic timing, brand new competition standard starting blocks, anti-splash side grates (which reduce water turbulence and enable faster swim times) and large spectator gallery, is one of the best pools in Sussex for hosting competitive galas. Marlins also regularly train at the Dolphin in Haywards Heath.

The club would like to establish a handful of strategic relationships with local businesses and organisations that would benefit from promotion across Marlins substantial member base. Custom packages are available from a variety of options including advertising space on the Marlins website www.midsussexmarlins.org with branding on Marlins swim caps, each member is given a cap upon joining and all members wear Marlins caps for competitions. Also, corporate branding on club clothing such as club polo shirts, hoodies and the track suits worn by competitive squads.

Proceeds of funding will be used for the purchase of new equipment such as floating  water polo goals which are now required at the Triangle following the installation of the new starting blocks, to expand pool training time for current and new members. Marlins also currently has a substantial waiting list, particularly from children who wish to learn to swim, and funding will help to continue to develop and expand our in-house teacher training programme and to provide transport for teams to galas.
