Wakehurst Autumn Festival Extravaganza
Bountiful Botanics is returning to Wakehurst for its third year – 14th and 15th October – in a celebration of all things autumn. This hugely popular family festival will inspire all ages to enjoy everything that nature has to offer as the season changes.
Children will love the Grow Tent – where they can roll up their sleeves and plant a selection of seeds and cuttings. Wakehurst’s horticultural team will be on hand to explain about seed collecting, propagation and wild flower identification.
Meet the Machines is always really popular and youngsters. They can hop up into the driver’s seat of one of Wakehurst’s many garden machines – and set their imaginations racing.
Tree-climbing, a photographic workshop and outdoor cookery are also on the menu. Apple-pressing in particular is a seasonal pursuit that both adults and children will enjoy together. Visitors can also learn how to utilise plants and herbs to keep themselves well over the winter months by attending talks that will run throughout the day.
There will be tours of the Millennium Seed Bank, talks and walks around the gardens, foraging workshops, a gin master class and cider tasting.
In between all this activity visitors will be able to relax on hay bales, listen to live music and enjoy lots of tasty autumn edibles and delicious hot food.
Most activities are free of charge (with normal Garden ticket) – apart from tree-climbing and the photography workshop which are bookable online at: kew.org/bountiful
