Seven Acclaimed Box Sets You Need To Be Watching On Sky Right Now

Looking for a good binge-watch but want it to be worth your time? These seven shows are all critically-acclaimed and considered to be some of the best shows of our generation - and the good news is, they're all the box sets are available to watch on Sky right now...

1. Succession

Critics and viewers around the globe have agreed on one thing since Succession started its four-season run: it's one of the best TV shows on the planet ever. Period. The darkly comic drama from Jesse Armstrong is packed with pathos, sharp dialogue and cutting satire not to be missed, with the show focusing on all deeply unlikable members of the Roy family, a group seemingly modelled on the modern Murdoch media moguls. They’re headed by gruff patriarch Logan Roy (Brian Cox), a billionaire who must pick his successor to his business empire. With the drama ramping up every minute, viewers are rewarded with rich returns by the end of each episode.

2. Chernobyl

Not for the faint-hearted, this limited series drama dramatizes the 1986 Ukrainian nuclear disaster and its aftermath at the titular power station. Emotionally horrifying at times and outright heart-wrenching from the off, its mesmerising ensemble cast includes Jared Harris, Stellan Skarsgard, Emily Watson, Jessie Buckley and Paul Ritter as they guide viewers through the initial tragedy, its immediate aftermath – and the incompetence and culture of denial that caused it. This is truly unflinching and unforgettable TV.

3. Game Of Thrones

You just can't have a list of acclaimed shows without including this fantasy epic. Based on the bestselling fantasy series by George R.R, Martin, Game Of Thrones chronicles a story of seven warring kingdoms in a bid for the Iron Thrones. With an incredible ensemble cast including Sean Bean, Peter Dinklage, Emilia Clarke, Kit Harrington, Lena Headey and many more big names, this incredible series continues to attract new fans everyday!

4. House Of The Dragon

You can't have Game Of Thrones on the list without mentioning its follow-up prequel, House Of The Dragon. Following a star-studded and acclaimed debut, season two is currently in production for this new saga taking place nearly 200 years before the events of its parent show, and revolving around a civil war between members of House Targaryen as they battle for (you guessed it) the Iron Throne. Another incredible ensemble cast leads this epic, with some mesmerising performances from Paddy Considine, Matt Smith, Olivia Cooke, Emma D'Arcy and more.

5. Save Me

If you're after a more realistic, gritty British thriller, this is the one for you. Starring and written by Lennie James (of The Walking Dead and Line Of Duty fame), this dark drama follows down-and-out Nelly who embarks on a tireless quest when his estranged daughter goes missing. Packed with British talent including Suranne Jones, Stephen Graham and Jason Flemyng, Save Me is a hidden gem in Sky's schedules - but it's one you don't want to miss.

6. The Leftovers

This one's for any lovers of Lost and fans of the supernatural. Considered one of the greatest television series of all time by critics and created by Lost alumni Damon Lindelof, the series begins three years after the "Sudden Departure", a global event that resulted in two per cent of the world's population disappearing. The lives of police chief Kevin Garvey (Justin Theroux) and his family, along with grieving widow Nora Durst (Carrie Coon) and her brother, Reverend Matt Jamison (Christopher Eccleston), are the focal points of the series as they struggle to adjust to life after the Departure. With emotional heartbreak, dystopian-inspired cults and obscure experiences with the supernatural, it's seriously must-watch television.

7. True Detective (Season One)

While all three seasons of this gritty anthology thriller are available to watch, it's the Woody Harrelson and Matthew McConaughey led debut season that really is an acting masterclass with a screen-addictive story exploring a string of murders going back decades in the swamps of Louisiana, all while exploring the personal impact of the two lead detectives, their families and their relationship over a 20-year period.
