Six Binge-Worthy Netflix Originals You Need To Be Watching

1. Black Mirror

The genius mind of Charlie Brooker comes to life in this acclaimed anthology series, which has been acquired and developed by Netflix for a number of years now, with the latest sixth season recently dropping on the streaming service. The series explores a twisted, high-tech multiverse where humanity's greatest innovations and darkest instincts collide through a variety of genres and alternative time periods. Some of the latest offerings include a woman whose life is turned into an AI-developed drama, filmmakers discovering a gruesome secret in the Scottish highlands, and two astronauts isolated in space after a family tragedy.

2. Wednesday

A spin-off of the classic franchise mixed with the wicked humour and aesthetic of director Tim Burton, this spooky tale focuses on the eldest Addams child (Jenna Ortega) who is sent off to Nevermore Academy, a private school for monstrous outcasts. Wednesday's cold, emotionless personality and her defiant nature make it difficult for her to connect with her schoolmates and cause her to run afoul of the school's principal Larissa Weems. However, she discovers she has inherited her mother's psychic abilities which allow her to solve a local murder mystery.

3. Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story

Another spin-off from the titular (and incredibly popular) Bridgerton, this mini-series focuses on the rise of Charlotte of Mecklenburg-Strelitz to prominence and power in the late 18th century. The series has so far proved to be as popular as its parent show, topping the most-watched lists on the platform globally in its first week of release.

4. Russian Doll

One to seriously mess with the mind, this comedy-drama series follows a woman named Nadia (Natasha Lyonne of American Pie fame) who is caught in a time loop as the guest of honour at her seemingly inescapable 36th birthday party one night in New York City. She dies repeatedly, always restarting at the same moment at the party, as she tries to figure out what is happening to her. She meets a man who is experiencing the same thing in a different event.

5. The Diplomat

Starring the incredible Keri Russell (The Americans, Star Wars), this American political thriller centres on Kate Wyler, the new United States ambassador to the United Kingdom, as she attempts to defuse international crises, forge strategic alliances in London, and adjust to her new place in the spotlight while also trying to survive her marriage to a fellow career diplomat. A second season is currently in production following the success of the first.

6. The Surrogacy

If you're a fan of international dramas, this Mexican-subtitled show is one to give a go. When a woman of humble origins is coerced into surrogacy to save her father's life, she becomes entangled with an affluent family of powerful businesspeople who will protect their reputation at all costs. It’s 2004, and surrogacy is still illegal in Mexico — but that won’t stop this influential and corrupt family from finding their perfect baby.
